Spoken words ~ Reflection

Reflection

Time ticks as you walk by, everyone seems to stare at you, waiting anxiously for your reaction.  You’ve lived your whole life being molded by the hands of others; the things you love, the things you despise, your perspectives aren’t really yours.

You’re a conglomerate of fragments of all you have perceived; the memories you own, you alter for the familiar. You regret the moments you loved and cherish the very ones that suppressed your truth. Through the eyes of others, you view yourself, neglecting what they ignore and embracing who they allege you are.

Their oversight has become yours and now you have inherited their limitations, proudly mirroring their inadequacies and fears. They sing your praise because, in you, they see a version of themselves; young, vibrant, unscathed; they see in you a life they longed to have. They adore your existence too much to let you grow because to see you broken would break them. So, they make excuses for your frustrations and hush voice of your dreams.

You are a product of society’s imperfections, perfectly shaped by the flaws of those entrusted to mold you, sculpted by the dreams of their aged hearts, purged by their unwholesome desire to exist through you. The very heart you own is foreign to you, its beats alarm your fragile mind because buried beneath your facade is a world yet revealed.

You are as alien to yourself as you are to a stranger. Like a landlubber tossed at sea, you have forgotten how to be at ease and breathe; how to let the ocean’s waves carry you. You thrash about trying so hard to keep afloat, but soon the inevitable would be, the waves of life will tuck you under, in the cold grave of mediocrity.

The world anticipates the answers that only you possess, the solution buried deep, underneath your fears and failures. The ticking of the timekeeper’s clock, the incessant stares, are a reminder that you were created for more.

The answer lies in your ability to unveil your mask and solve the puzzle of your purpose, and with time you’ll blossom and be the response we all await.

Spread the love
