A Poem - Bound

Like a badge, you clung on to your array of scars humbled by the fact that you'd been seemingly defeated, shocked that once again you'd fallen. You had prepared for this your whole life. Night and day standing bare before the mirror mesmerized by your charm and imperfections, memorizing your soul like a map.

Every time you felt like less, you reminded yourself that you were infinite, that there had to be more. Yet, you were knocked down effortlessly like a soldier with no fighting chance, warring against the same monsters you'd fought all your life.

Somehow you had convinced yourself that this was your last battle but never were you so wrong. The maddening jeers of the voices that left you feeling haunted were back, screaming louder than before; the strain of the cuffs cutting through your wrists left you feeling bound.

Useless, completely useless, you thought. The harder you fought, the more tethered you were. You were your own master completely in control of everything but your mind, the one thing you needed the most. And now, once again, the only part of you you fought all your life for had been taken captive.

Freedom beckoned, so close that you could almost embrace it, but each time you found a way to hold on, it slipped from your grasp. Your perception of freedom had been all wrong, like a mirage supposedly present but never within reach. And unknown to your wildest imagination, every beast you ever fought was just a part of you striving for some form of expression, hoping that one day, you could be truly free.

For true freedom is not found in the absence of bonds but where Truth abounds. And this truth goes by only one Name - Jesus.
